A Choice

In a parallel time,

there’s a house where we spend our days
wrapped in each other in sync in ways
that seem to unfold only in nature
where it’s not the walls that are home
but the body we lay entwined with

In this time,

I want to care for you, I want to hold you,
I want to nurse you back to health
I want this house to be your home,
the kind you’ve been searching for and never found
I know I can provide that and I want to, I do

But also in this time,

there is another path I’m supposed to be on,
one that creates a world where everyone experiences home,
and if I allow you here, now, our white hot fire
risks burning the whole thing down
and ashes of a life fulfilled will be all that’s left to hold

So I choose

to stay alone on my path
and work for the parallel
and hope you know
though I’m not always near in body
you have, forever, a home in my heart
