The Pilot
I dreamt we were in a plane crash
but we didn’t die
The pilot announced halfway to doom
that he wouldn’t give up
so I looked in your eyes
and held on to my seat
and my faith and somehow our feet
once again touched the ground
Traumatic experiences so often
bond people together
but you walked away
Even in my dream you walked away
Swiftly down the terminal
sights set on your next destination
without a word thrown to anyone
And in the morning I found
the pilot’s words were mine
Though the air is deathly quiet
and the end is all but certain
and I don’t know what else to do
I won’t give up on you
And maybe our feet will
one day touch the ground
